There¡¯s no place like home, or so they say. Everybody wants to have a pleasant home environment so that axiom can ring true for them personally. You have your home nicely furnished and keep it tidy, contributing to that happy environment, but unfortunately sight is not the only sense that comes into play.
It¡¯s a terrible thing when your nice looking home smells bad. Maybe you have a problem with mold. This is common especially in basements. Maybe you smoke indoors and there is that lingering odor of stale nicotine. Maybe you have been painting or have had some other sudden accident that creates a terrible odor. Whatever the source, a smelly house is just not a nice place to be.
Odors are able to penetrate what seem to us to be solid surfaces. Walls, floors and certainly furniture and cabinets absorb odors and hold them for a very long time. Getting rid of a bad smell can be very difficult.
One great solution for removing an unpleasant odor is by using an air purifier. Odor will not respond to many types of air cleaners, but there is one type that is highly effective at removing odor. Ozone generators are the one for the job.
What an ozone generator does is produce large amounts of ozone gas. This gas covers the area, seeping into the same cracks and pores that the odor has gone into. It oxidizes the molecules that are causing the odor, thus neutralizing it.
Of course we all know that ozone is terrible for the environment. This type of air purifier odor remover is not meant to be used long term while you relax in your living room! It is a very different type of air cleaner that has to be used in a very specific way.
Ozone generators are commonly used after a house fire which leaves the home smelling of smoke, after a flood that causes mold or when a smoker moves out of the home. They are used on a one time basis as a sort of shock treatment. The entire home is blasted with ozone and the odors are gone for good.
Besides being bad for the environment, ozone is also very bad for us to breathe. When your home is being treated with an ozone generator you cannot be indoors. It is similar in this respect to fumigation.
Some small home air purifiers might help to reduce odors, but if your home has a serious problem with a permeating odor that just won¡¯t go away, you will probably need to take a more serious step and use an ozone generator to oxidize the odors. Once you do, you will have your home, sweet smelling home back again!
